Rest of August

Now that school has been back in session for a couple of weeks, we are settling into the new routine. Bria & BellaMei miss the big girls when they are at school, but they think story time at the library is their "school."
Story Time at the library
Dinner with one of my besties.
FaceTiming with Xiaoyun's mom. She gave us a tour of their apartment, and we gave her a tour of our house.
Invitational at Vincennes. Braylee had a rough start but we were proud of her for persevering.
Xiaoyun spends hours on her artwork. She's very talented!
FaceTiming with Papaw on his birthday! He even gives virtual high fives!
Rachel's Baby Shower!
Rachel was one of our little 2nd grade campers at Bible Memory camp when Alex and I used to serve in our pre-kid days! Now she's our neighbor and we can't wait to meet her baby boy!
Sunday afternoon golfing with her dad.
Caught her snoozing on the job. 😉
Another Thursday, Another Story Time
Two birdies in 5 days. 💪🏼

Marengo Cave

We decided it was time to take Xiaoyun on her 1st camping trip!

When we arrived at Marengo Cave, it was so different than our regular camping experiences.  There was no where to check in and no staff around. Another camper pulled in behind us and then left after about 5 minutes, leaving us completely alone in the campground! The girls played along the creek, found a friendly cat, and then enjoyed some smores.
Xiaoyun's 1st Smore
Saturday morning, we had breakfast and then went to our 1st cave tour.

Break for lunch and nap for the little girls, then we went on another cave tour,
We spent the evening playing games, learning about Chinese pop icons 😊, and getting bit by mosquitos!
On Sunday, we decided to stop at French Lick and West Baden.
BoMac's for dinner.
One last stop on the way home- The Jug Rock

It was a hot & humid weekend which made us even more grateful for the amazing weather we had on our trip over the summer!

A Tribute to Leila 💗

On Wednesday night, we said goodbye to our Little Lady Leila, just a few weeks shy of her 16th birthday. 😭😭😭 While she had become deaf and mostly blind, we joked that she was like a cat with nine lives, and yet we still weren't prepared to say goodbye. We are thankful she passed away peacefully and while we were home with her. Our first baby and loyal companion, she was the sweetest puppy.  The girls do not know life without her, and Alex and I are struggling to remember. She welcomed all of our babies home and as I looked through pictures, I quickly realized she was always near.  She was with us when the girls took their first steps, learned to write their names, or rode a bike without training wheels. She has slept at the foot of our bed for almost 16 years, gone on countless camping trips, and allowed the girls to dress her up and lug her around everywhere.
Alex surprised me with 9-week-old Leila in my stocking for Christmas 2003.
Introducing Braylee to Leila ~ 2004
She might have been a little jealous of the new baby at first. 😊
But soon, they were best friends. Leila would bring her alligator to us and beg to play.

Leila was scared of storms. Beilyn wrapped her up to comfort her during a storm. 💗
She also let Leila wear her beloved necklace- a true sign of love from Beilyn.

Saying goodbye to our Leila. 😭
We woke the big girls up to let them tell her goodbye.
The next day, we told the little girls.
We buried her under the trees by their playset.
Beilyn going with her daddy to tell Leila goodbye.
Leila was a form of healing for our Beilyn who probably said it best... "Our family will never be the same. Our home will never be the same."
