I've had a few people asking about our baby #5. I'm almost 31 weeks and things are going great! I wanted to share a little more about how we found out #5 was on the way. ♥
Back in March, one of the ladies from our adoption agency was in China meeting the children whose files would soon be coming to our agency. She sent me a message via FB about a little boy that made her think of our family. We were not in process to adopt again and I just happened to be home that Sunday morning from church with a sick little girl. When I saw his picture, my heart did a little flip flop and began racing. A surprise adoption! We had never had a surprise pregnancy so this felt extra special. When I saw him, he reminded me of a boy Brielle. He was so adorable! He was a heart baby too. When Alex came home from church, I went outside to where he was grilling lunch. I said, "So I'm not pregnant (Wish I had a picture of his face! and it's even funnier now since I was and didn't know it!), but if we ever had a "surprise pregnancy" this would be it." I went on to tell him about the message I had gotten from Nicole and showed him the pictures of a super cute little boy in China. We didn't know his name, his birthday, or even where he was waiting, but we both felt an instant connection to him and without hesitation, Alex said, "OK." We immediately contacted our home study agency and started paperwork the next day. Exactly one week later, I was walking out the door to meet Alex for a fingerprint appointment for our home study. I opened an email from our agency stating the little boy was being adopted domestically in China so he was no longer available. I was happy for him, but I cried for us. So crushed. I had tried to guard my heart but I was already calling him by name in my head.
The NEXT day... March 24th... the day before my 36th birthday, I decided just maybe I should take a pregnancy test. What a shock when I saw those two lines appear quickly! (I was already 5 weeks because a pregnancy never crossed my mind!) We had been under the care of a fertility specialist/on medication when we got pregnant with our older girls. We tried for years after Brynna and did multiple fertility treatments and medications without success. Since I was 29, we have prayed and hoped to be pregnant again. It just didn't happen. We continued to hope and pray after we returned home with Brielle. Then once home with Beilyn, pregnancy really wasn't on our radar anymore but I had said casually a few times, "If I'm not pregnant by 36, we are done having bio kids."
Only God.
Nine years since I had seen a positive pregnancy test AND it was the day before my 36th birthday.
Obviously, Alex was just as shocked as I was when I told him! Talk about an emotional roller coaster of a week! Find out about a little boy, then learn he's no longer available and then Surprise, we are pregnant!! We had hoped this baby might be a little boy, but now that we know it's a girl, we are realizing there are advantages to parenting all the same gender. We are honored to raise these sweet little girls!
We attempted a 3D ultrasound at 28 weeks but our little girl wasn't positioned for the best view. The girls loved getting to see her again though!

Her feet in front of her face. :) She reminds me of Baby Braylee in this picture.

One thing we have certainly learned in the last 7+ years is that we may make plans, but He guides our paths! (Proverbs 16:9) We are so humbled by His goodness and faithfulness.
