It was another beautiful sunrise from our campground, though a little cool. We even kicked on the heater for a bit this morning. Our girls were so pumped about sledding at the Great Sand Dunes that no one complained about getting up early though! Alex had researched (shocking! 😄) about where to rent the boards for sledding on the dunes. With reviews saying the boards often run out quickly, he was determined we were going to be in line early, especially since this was opening day after being closed due to Covid. The rental place opened at 9...so of course he had us there by 7:15. There wasn't another soul around. 😄 We had no worries about missing out on board rentals though, and the girls played in the dirt (typical) while we waited.

| Our view of the dunes from where we waited to rent the boards. It was wild to see the giant piles of sand nestled between the vast prairie and majestic mountains! |
 |
| Brielle was more excited about this adventure than anything else on our schedule. |
Medano Creek runs between the parking lot and the dunes. It's created by the water run off from the snow-capped mountains each spring. It is very shallow is some areas and rushing in others.

The girls quickly claimed a spot and began waxing their boards.

The girls' first attempts.
It's difficult to see in the pictures and videos just how vast and enormous the dunes are.
We had the most perfect weather and arriving early allowed us a private, untouched area of the dunes. ❤️

| Brynna's jump was always off a little. 😆 |
 |
| After a picnic along the creek, the big girls played frisbee while the little girls dug in the sand. By the time we left, they were all soaked. |

| She was in heaven all day! |
 |
| After driving through a dust storm, we stopped at Treasure Falls on our way to Durango. The drive between South Fork & Pagosa Springs was beautiful! |
 |
We ended the day with a quiet evening in the same campground where we stayed 4 years ago in Durango. |
